Stunning Undiscovered Cape Town

All our jewellery is sterling silver, stainless steel or titanium

Sterling Silver - Information and Care

  • Pure silver is very soft so it is commonly combined with other metals (usually copper) to produce a more durable product
  • Sterling silver is made up of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% other metals
  • All sterling silver items should have the 925 hallmark stamp on it
  • To avoid damage sterling silver should be stored in its own packaging when not in use
  • Do not expose silver to chemicals such as bleach, perfumes, hairsprays, chlorinated water or sea water
  • The reason silver needs to be polished is because it tarnishes
  • Silver is cleaned using a silver polish cloth
  • Matt silver is best cleaned using a pencil eraser.

Stainless steel

  • Our jewellery is manufactured using 316L stainless steel, which is a high grade stainless steel
  • Stainless steel is often used in the making of body jewellery as it does not release nickel salts into the body
  • Stainless steel does not oxidise like silver or gold, which means it does not need polishing to maintain its appearance
  • All of our products are finished using a unique technique called electro polishing, which is a sophisticated surface polishing technique, where electrochemical activity slowly eats away a thin surface layer from the jewellery surface, resulting in micro smoothing
  • Stainless steel is more scratch resistant and stronger than silver

Titanium (Ti, atomic number 22)

  • Titanium is abundant of earth and has been detected in meteorites
  • It was first discovered in Cornwall, UK in 1971
  • It is well used in space exploration
  • As well as for military hardware such as jet fighters, tanks and submarines
  • Titanium is a lustrous grey metallic element used mainly to make lightweight and resistant alloys
  • It is incredibly strong and durable - that is why titanium rings cannot be resized
  • Pure titanium is as strong as steel but 50% lighter
  • You cannot engrave on Titanium

Tungsten

  • Tungsten rings are the most wear resistant rings on the planet
  • Tungsten is about 10 times harder than 18k gold and 4 times harder than titanium
  • Due to their extreme hardness will hold their shape and shine longer than any other ring on the market
  • Tungsten rings have been referred to as the 'Permanently Polished Ring'
  • Tungsten rings will not bend
  • In the event of an emergency, a ring can be removed by a medical professional
  • Tungsten rings are nickel free

Cubic Zirconia

  • CZ is a man made substitute for those who cannot afford a diamond or prefer not to spend that much
  • It has less sparkle and brilliance than a diamond, but more fire and colour
  • CZ are durable, brilliant and beautiful
  • Some CZ's come in every colour of the rainbow

Swarovski Crystal

  • Was invented by Daniel Swarovski in 1895 in Austria
  • Made from the finest crystal lead glass, cut and ground with such precision that they sparkle like diamonds
  • They have a weight and style set apart from normal beads
  • They use only lead content crystal glass (32% is lead and lead oxide)
  • The sparkle comes from light bouncing off of the internal surfaces in the lead crystal
  • Swarovski are known to be the best crystals in the world
  • Set in gel resin and then baked. This is why great care must be taken with items that have Swarovski crystals. They should not be immerged in water

Mother of Pearl

  • Mother of Pearl is the iridescent coating on the inside of an oyster shell. It is thought to bring wisdom and to protect children
  • It is recommended not to expose the dyed mother of pearl to extreme heat or direct sunlight
  • Fresh water pearls - appear in mussels
  • Sea water pearls - appear in oysters
  • These pearls appear when a foreign material i.e. a sharp object or parasite enters the mussel or oyster, which cannot be expelled
  • The mollusc then coats the intruder with the same secretion it uses for shell building to reduce irritation

Amber

  • Amber is fossilised tree sap. Real amber will float in salty water
